■Ichijodani Asakura Family Site
About 530 years ago, in 1471, this is the ruins of a castle town where the Asakura clan, a feudal lord from the Sengoku period, ruled Echizen Province for 103 years over five generations.
At its peak, the population is said to have exceeded 10,000, making it a magnificent castle town and flourishing with an elegant culture.
However, the Asakura clan was defeated by Oda Nobunaga in 1573.We have closed the curtain on that long history.
The first full-scale excavation survey was conducted in 1967, and the original townscape was uncovered almost completely.
In 1991, four gardens within the Asakura ruins were designated as special national scenic spots.
